The Countryside Auxiliary's Matching Gifts Program reached its $10,000 goal
today! Donors contributing to the Garden Improvement Project since early 2007
have had their gifts matched by the Auxiliary up to this stated goal. We
acknowledge and appreciate the wonderful help the Auxiliary has provided toward
this project . . . a job well done! Reaching this goal however, does not mean we
have reached the total needed to finish the Garden Improvement Project. About
$24,000 in gifts are still needed to fully complete all phases of this project. Won't
you consider helping us today?

hearings the Commission was conducting throughout the State.
October 3, 2008
State Senator Mike Folmer and Rep. Rose Marie Swanger visited Countryside to
see and understand first-hand the impact of proposed regulations for assisted
living in Pennsylvania. Cottage resident, Linda Lee Keller, and Countryside's
Personal Care Administrator, Michelle Whitman, joined the discussion with Dan
Snyder, Director of Planning & Development and with representatives from our
state not-for-profit providers association. These regulations, if approved in their
present form, would dramatically increase operating costs for assisted living and
would present numerous operational challenges for providers and residents alike.

The new State budget for Pennsylvania included a 1% increase in funding for
nursing homes in the Medicaid Program and 0% for personal care homes. These
decisions were made despite the growing cost of food, medical care and energy
and will provide further challenge to continuing care communities like Countryside
as we seek to provide quality services for the growing older adult population.
